Australia have named their provisional squad for the 2023 ICC World Cup. Here is the full AUS team list, with player news and injury updates.
Australia left Nathan Ellis out of their provisional World Cup squad, while retaining the injured Glenn Maxwell. They have until September 28 to name the final squad.
Captain Pat Cummins is one of the four specialist fast bowlers in the squad, along with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott, along with pace-bowling all-rounders Cam Green, Mitchell Marsh, and Marcus Stoinis.
The spin attack, on the other hand, looks somewhat thin, with Adam Zampa and the all-rounders – Ashton Agar and Maxwell – making up the unit, though some of their batters do roll their arm over.
In Marsh and Travis Head, the have a devastating opening pair. David Warner will probably drop to accommodate at the top, as he did in India earlier this year, but can be used based on requirement.
Wicketkeeper Alex Carey and batters Steve Smith and Josh Inglis (who doubles as reserve wicketkeeper) complete the unit. Their long list of all-rounders provide them depth in both batting and bowling, making them one of the tournament favourites.
With five trophies – in 1987 (in the Indian subcontinent), 1999 (the British Isles), 2003 (Africa), 2007 (the West Indies), and 2015 (Australia and New Zealand) – Australia are the most successful team in the history of the Men’s World Cup. No other team has won even thrice.
They finished second in the league stage in 2019 before losing the semi-final to eventual champions England.
